Dr Ram Baran Yadav is Republic Nepal's First President

Dr Ram Baran Yadav of Nepali Congress has been elected as the First President of Nepal today after he got 308 votes for 280 by Ramraja Prasad Singh. Total casted votes 590. I congratulate Dr Yadav for being on the such a glorious position of the country- Nepal's First President.

Speculation made earlier were in favor of Dr Yadav, and hence he is the Republic Nepal's very first President.

With some small parties pledging fresh support to the NC-UML-MPRF alliance for presidency in Monday's run-off, Nepali Congress candidate Dr Ram Baran Yadav has garnered a groundswell of support as the new republic's first president. The new three-party alliance received clear words from some new parties, which boycotted the presidential polls on Saturday, during parleys to garner 15 votes that he ran short of in Saturday's polling to win the election.

Paramananda Jha- Republic Nepal's first vice-president

Madhesi People’s Rights Forum candidate Paramananda Jha was elected as the first vice president of the federal democratic republic of Nepal. However, none of the three candidates vying to be the first president of Nepal could garner a clear majority of at least 298 votes.
Today’s Constituent Assembly (CA) meeting will fix a new date for the presidential post run-off.

Maoist candidate Ram Raja Prasad Singh, Nepali Congress (NC)’s Dr Ram Baran Yadav and CPN-UML’s Ram Prit Paswan were vying to be Nepal’s first president. Likewise, Maoist’s Shanta Shrestha, NC’s Maan Bahadur Bishwakarma, UML’s Asta Laxmi Shakya and MPRF’s Parmananda Jha are the candidates for the vice-presidential post.

Earlier today, the CA members had cast their votes to choose Nepal’s new president and vice-president.
Of the total 594 voters registered, 578 CA members cast their ballots while 16 CA members stayed away from the voting centre.
As per the election programme, a re-election will be conducted between the two candidates securing highest number of votes if none of the candidates could garner a clear majority (298 votes).

Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal, National People’s Front Nepal and Nepal Workers and Peasants Party boycotted the election.
Voting began at around 11:15 am at the International Convention Centre in the capital and concluded at 2:30pm.
Voting was delayed for some time as new alliances were forged among the parties at the eleventh-hour.
The Election Commission had extended the voting period till 2.30pm. It had earlier fixed the time from 11am to 2pm today.

Do Parrot's BOSS?

A man goes into a pet shop to buy a parrot. The shop owner points to three identical looking parrots on a perch and says "The parrot to the left costs 500 dollars". "Why does the parrot cost so much?" the customer asks. The owner says "It knows how to use a computer." The customer asks about the next parrot and is told "That one costs 1,000 dollars because it can do everything the other parrot can do plus it knows how to use the UNIX operating system." Naturally, the increasingly startled man asks about the third parrot and is told "That one costs 2,000 dollars." Needless to say this begs the question "What can it do?!" The owner replies "To be honest I have never seen it do a thing but the other two call him boss!"

Nepal's first President to be elected on 19 July 2008

After a long instability and political insane, Nepal's indirect Presidential election is all set to go tomorrow. The Nepalese Constituent Assembly (CA) elected in April 2008 will elect a new president and vice-president after the Fifth Amendment to the Interim Constitution was passed on July 14. This would be the first president to be elected after Nepal became a republic few months earlier.

As the major political parties of Nepal failed to forge a common agreement on the presidential candidate until Wednesday evening, the office of the Election Officer (OEO) is set to take the procedure of electing the first president of the newest republic from Thursday. As part of the president election process, the OEO published the final votes list this afternoon.

Altogether 594 Constituent Assembly (CA) members are included in the list of voters who will be electing the country's first president and vice president on Saturday.
The OEC published the names of 593 votes out of 601-CA members saying that the election is still due to take place in five constituencies and three CA members are still to be sworn-in. According to Kantipur sources, the election procedure will definitely move forward from Thursday if the political parties make no heady on the president and vice-president by 1 pm on Thursday.

Likewise, Ram Raja Prasad Singh took a candidacy form for the president. Singh lately remains far from the probable candidate for the presidential post though the Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (CPN-M) had proposed him for the constitutional post earlier. The political parties finally decided to put the issue to a vote at the CA to elect the country's first president after the deadlock over the appointment of president, vice-president and CA chair.

The election commision's website writes on Election of Nepal's First President and the First Presidential Election:

The process of electing the first president of republic Nepal began from Wednesday. As per the election program mentioned in the procedure passed by the Constituent Assembly, the voters' list will be published at 10 am on Wednesday on which protests can be registered till 12 noon. The final list of voters will be published on 12:30 pm. On the basis of political understanding, presidential and vice president candidates will file nomination papers till 5 pm in the evening. However, if the political understanding is not forthcoming, nominations can be filed on Thursday between 10 am and 1 pm. The final list of candidates will be published at 5 pm on Thursday. The whole of Friday has been reserved for campaigning. The election will then take place between 11 am and 2 pm on Saturday. At 5 pm, the CA will declare the result of the winner. President can be elected based on simple majority. If none of the candidate gets majority, the top two candidates will head to second round of voting.
Only the CA members are eligible for voting in the election
